My thoughts on David “Max Boyce” Sutton:

What can I tell you about Max that you don’t already know… not a lot really.
Most of you reading this will have known Max for as long as I have… and some of you a darn sight longer.

My first memory of Max was at my very first run in Hadleigh…back in 1993, Zipper & Laces set it from the Crown, Max & Thumper were sweeping up the virgins! Those sexy checked shorts ending just above his knobbly knees – once seen never forgotten.

He was almost as well known for his unusually tie dyed Hash T shirts that Julie had transformed into unique colours, as he was for his flashy waistcoats . The years when he was GM or RA will go down in Hash folklore……..getting Kebab, Aven’t got one & myself to “swim” across the floor to decide who
should be OnSec was a sight not to be missed.

He was caring & supportive…… in everything he did…especially the Hash. Even not including the last 6 months, I think he & Julie must have hosted more “Hash” events from their home than any one else.

He was delighted when this year’s committee almost made it to being all Harriettes, and the fresh cream cake fight we had at the Ship last year is vividly stored in my “happy memory box”.

I’m sure he would want you all to recall your own special memory right now, for me… the top drawer memory has got to be out in Cyprus…standing by a huge bougainvillea tree in the botanical gardens. As ever… he was entering in to swing of Interhash and at the same time….he was looking out for me…… making sure that there was someone walking back to the apartments at the same time as me.

I remember taking a photo in Mihas in October & thinking… that’ll do for an award…even then his back was playing him up, but the moment the band struck up Brown Sugar, he was up on his feet, grabbing Julie & getting up on the stage to dance, little did we all realise then what the next few months would bring.

I really do feel privileged to have known Max & Julie for the last 15 years, their strength, love & respect for each other is something to be revered, remembered & recalled whenever you think things may be getting a bit tough in your own life.

On – On!
